Last night was good - big barbecue at the club with live music and Malaysian dancing, fireworks etc. There were quizzes and challenges on stage for the sailors but we think most of Matt's answers were lost in translation from Penarth-Wenglish to Malaysian.
Alan had a great night - as you can see from the photo below - but was presumably feeling the chill and needed his special hat! (Pictured here with Chris Atkins who was providing useful support...and it was only 8:30pm!)
Actually, he was quite sober really because Jen was in charge...
Earlier in the day some of the parenty-supporter-people had hired a reasonably priced car for an amphibious Malaysian Roadtrip, which is an interesting experience with buffalo and monkeys running wild all over the place. We saw some flat monkeys on the road - but no flat buffalo funnily enough. The roads are actually very easy to drive on as there are few cars.
Up at the far corner of the island (about 30 mins or so) we hired a boat for a tour of the mangrove swamps in the Kilim Geoforest Park - which are full of monkeys, eagles, vipers, fruit bats and some pretty natty archer fish which spit at their prey - even when it's about a metre above the surface - to knock it into the water, or just leap out the water and grab it. In our case the prey were either lumps of bread or our fingers. We finished up at Tanjung Rhu which is probably the best beach in the area - or possibly the best beach anywhere.
