Sinclair Jones from Peru - World Champion 2009

Sinclair won the worlds in Rio - Brasil. He's now 15 and quite tall- during the team racing I had caught with him and his coach Branko.

Sinclair
Your English is very good - 'I go to the British school in Lima'.
When did you start sailing- 'when I was about 7'.
What do you think about sails - 'you need the right one for the conditions, I use a J sail'.
How often do you sail- '2 times a week every week mainly on the sea'.
What do you think matters most- '40% boathandling and 60% tactics- tactics very important.'
How many events do you go to ' many all over the world including singapore, a few weeks ago I was in Lanzarotte traning'.
What do you think of here-' this is very tricky!'
Sinclair thought the Jones name came from Scotland- we put him right, as Matt actually knew the answer to that one.

Sinclair couldn't understand why Great Britian does things as 4 seperate countries, I explained but his eyes glazed over. He had heard of Caernarfon and knew about Man U and Liverpool.

Branko- Sinclair's coach
There are 60 optimist sailors in Peru, they are mainly in 4 large clubs with a lot of money.  They have 8 championships a year of 12 races each.  Sailors travell allover the world to compete- 'Hey Alan why don't you do the South Americans?
Branko thought the sailing conditions in Langkawi werre not good- why not Caracus- big winds big waves it would be great.
Branko spotted my  Gran  Canaria T shirt and said he raced in that worlds and remembered the great GBR results.
Branko coaches his team 2-4 days a week.

I have a nice picture but it won't upload right now.

More news soon.
